Christ in the Desert Story

The Monastery of Christ in the Desert was founded by Father Aelred Wall in 1964. He was accompanied by a group of loyal monks from the Mount Savior Monastery in New York. In 1983, Christ in the Desert was received into the English Province of the Subiaco Congregation as a Conventual Priory. Years later, it became its own autonomous abbey. Today, the monastery stands as a home for monks who seek union with God. It is also a retreat for men and women to share in Divine Office and Mass. The monks who live at Christ in the Desert engage in crafts and the complete maintenance of their sacred home for their guests.
