The International Folk Art Market is on its way back to Santa Fe this July, and due to its rating as “The Best Arts Festival” by USA Today, it’s an event you can’t miss! The Santa Fe Plaza will be bursting with color, music, and great food the entire weekend of July 14-16, 2017. Four different markets will be held over those three days, each one unique, so make sure you don’t miss a single one!
About the International Folk Art Alliance
The International Folk Art Market is hosted by an organization called the International Folk Art Alliance.Their mission is to celebrate and preserve living folk art traditions and create economic opportunities for and with folk artists worldwide. Since the beginning of their efforts, they have impacted the careers of over 750 artists in 88 countries and have accumulated nearly $20 million in artist earnings.
Things to Do at the International Folk Art Market
Each year, the International Folk Art Market attracts more than 20,000 visitors, hosts the work of hundreds of artists from all over the world, is operated by over 1,600 volunteers, and generates nearly $11 million in economic impact for the local economy. Needless to say, this is a huge event and there are so many things to see and do that you’ll barely have the time to do it all in one visit.
Kickoff the festivities with a concert by Mamandou Kelly, a Nigerian music artist who boasts an encyclopedic knowledge of Malian music. It’s a great way to start the festival with music and dancing.
Get a first look at the masterpieces of some of the greatest folk artists in the world as you dance to live music, enjoy delicious foods, and get first dibs on the shopping!
