This September 17-18 and 24-25, get ready for an exciting excursion that doubles up as a scenic excursion and art adventure! The High Road Art Tour is an annual event that takes place just as the trees begin molting their green leaves for bright and bold autumn colors. That way, you can enjoy the cobalt blue skies and gorgeous fall scenery as you explore the many art galleries along the High Road to Taos. It’s a great way to spend a weekend in Northern New Mexico or immerse yourself in the scenery and art that is unique to this region.
About the High Road Artisans
The presenters of the High Road Art Tour are those involved in the High Road Artisans. This is a non-profit organization that aims to enhance the economic vitality, and ultimately the lives, of local artists and artisans located along the High Road to Taos. Through events such as the High Road Art Tour, the organization continues to breathe life into cherished artistic traditions. They receive partial funding from New Mexico Art and Rio Arriba County. The remainder of their income relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers.
What to Expect at the High Road Art Tour
Beginning September 17, pack up the car for a unique art gallery tour along the historic High Road. You’ll wind through tiny villages and beautiful countryside as you make stops at participating art galleries. In past years, there were nearly 40 galleries who opened their doors to visitors for this event. If you would like to see them all, an overnight stay in a nearby accommodation may be in order! Or you may opt to pick just a couple of your favorite galleries for a relaxing morning or afternoon excursion! The High Road Art Tour is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., so plan accordingly!
Just a few of the galleries you may expect to visit this year are the Sally Delp-John, Garcia Spanish Colonial Arts, and Gaucho Blue Fine Art Gallery. Whether you’re interested in paintings, sculptures, jewelry, or photography, there are many galleries housing beautiful pieces of art that you’ll love!
