The chance to attend an opera performance is often a thrilling and beautiful night, but perhaps never more so than when you attend a performance at the breathtaking outdoor venue of the Santa Fe Opera. Not only will you be surrounded by the beautiful sights and sounds of every Santa Fe Opera performance, but you’ll do so under the gorgeous night sky of the scenic high deserts of New Mexico.
The annual Santa Fe Opera season runs throughout the summer from June through August, and tickets are currently on sale. The event sells out every year, so the sooner you plan which performances you want to attend this year (if not an entire season), the sooner you can plan your upcoming getaways to our romantic Bed and Breakfast in New Mexico.
The Santa Fe Opera venue is only a short drive from our quaint Chimayó Inn, which makes us a great home base for this and other adventures across northern New Mexico this summer. Whether you want to visit the famed Santuario de Chimayó, drive the scenic High Road to Taos, explore the exquisite museums, galleries, and shops of Santa Fe, or just relax, there’s no better place to stay in New Mexico. Book your room at our top-rated Bed and Breakfast near the Santa Fe Opera today!
A Captivating 2024 Santa Fe Opera Season
Celebrating its 67th Festival Season, the Santa Fe Opera continues to be spectacular. Somehow, this fantastic series of performances in the high deserts of New Mexico finds a way to get better and better each year.
The Santa Fe Opera’s open-air venue has been called “one of the handsomest operatic settings in the Western Hemisphere” and a “miracle in the desert”—two descriptions that we think say it all. Moreover, in 2022, the 2022 International Opera Awards awarded the Santa Fe Opera the Festival of the Year, a true testament to just how special these performances and the adjacent experiences are.
The 2024 season at the Santa Fe Opera is scheduled to start on June 28, 2024, and will continue through mid-August with another impressive lineup of performances. The performances you can enjoy at this year’s Santa Fe Opera include the following:
- La Traviata, June 28 – August 24
- Don Giovanni, June 29 – August 23
- The Righteous, World Premiere, July 13 – August 13
- Der Rosenkavalier, July 20 – August 15
- The Elixir of Love, July 27 – August 22
- Apprentice Scenes, featuring the next generation of stars at the Santa Fe Opera, August 11 & 18
Though the performance is the star of the experience, it’s not the only part of the night to look forward to. The preview dinner is also a beloved tradition at the Santa Fe Opera. The meal is excellent, of course, but the Preview Dinner also includes pre-performance talks that will most certainly enhance your viewing experience. If you’d rather enjoy a casual meal before your performance, you can always enjoy a tailgate picnic before the performance.
Many guests often ask us about the Santa Fe Opera dress code, which is just as casual as you’d expect in the high deserts of northern New Mexico. You can expect to encounter a range of styles from opera attendees, including nice denim, suedes, cowboy boots, and plenty of turquoise and silver jewelry. This casual style is often referred to as “Santa Fe Casual.” Others, still, are dressed in their finest evening attire. Whatever you wear, bring a layer, as desert evenings can be chilly, even in the summer.
