  1. Among all the things to do in Taos, NM that we recommend, nothing beats a visit to the gorgeous Taos Pueblo. It has been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years and is the only living Native American community designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark.  
  2. Visit the Harwood Museum of Art. It’s the second oldest art museum in New Mexico. It showcases an exceptional collection of Hispanic works and visual arts from the Taos Society of Artists, Taos Moderns, and contemporary artists.
  3. Visit and photograph the San Francisco de Asís Church in Rancho de Taos, another popular activity in Taos, New Mexico. 
  4. Head to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, which stands an impressive 650 feet above the river.  The views from here are extraordinary and worth seeing at least once. From there, explore the wide-open, rugged landscapes of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. With views like these, it’s easy to see why this is rated as one of the best things to do in Taos, NM. 
  5. If you want to find some adventure, this a great place to do it. Get out on the river for some whitewater rafting.  The best whitewater rafting in New Mexico is in Taos on the incredible Rio Grande River.

  7. Take a summer chairlift ride up the Taos Ski Valley. At the top, you’ll enjoy views of Wheeler Peak and Kachina Peak and abundant wildflowers. The area also offers excellent mountain biking. It’s definitely one of the best places for adventure in the Taos area. 
  8. Want to relax a little? One of the best things to do in Taos, NM, is to visit one of the natural hot springs in the area. Top choices include Manby and Black Rock Hot Springs. You have to hike/walk into both of them, but sitting in the healing hot waters of northern New Mexico is a true must-have experience.
  9. Of all the incredible things to do in Taos, NM, few beat getting out into nature and exploring the stunning landscapes. Hiking is one of the best ways to do that, and there is certainly no shortage of great trails worth exploring. The Taos Valley Overlook is a wonderful place to start.

One of the most iconic New Mexico ski resorts is Taos Ski Valley, found just outside the charming, historic town of Taos.
