The Most Fun Things to Do in Taos, NM
1. High Road to Taos
This is the route most of our guests take from Chimayo to Taos! From Chimayo, take NM 76 towards Taos. Along the journey, you will drive through some of northern New Mexico’s most quaint and charming towns. Some of the first villages you will encounter include Ruchas, Cordova, and Ojo Sarco. These towns are well known for woodcarving, rugs, pottery, and other artifacts. In Las Trampas, you’ll find spectacular Spanish-colonial architecture and the San Jose de Gracia de las Trampas. This journey is a great warm-up for Taos and makes getting there even more fun!
2. Taos Pueblo
This traditional Pueblo village is a living community that still houses several Taos Indians. The Taos Pueblo has thrived for more than 1,000 years and is designated as a National Historic Landmark and World Heritage site. Visitors are welcome inside the village to experience the everyday life of the locals and explore the historic Pueblo houses. Tradition dictates that no running water or electricity are allowed inside, so you’ll discover a whole new way of life inside the village.
3. Ghost Ranch in Taos
This 21,000-acre land was once the home of famous artist Georgia O’Keeffe. It was also the subject of many of her most famous paintings. 7. San Francisco de Asis Church
The San Francisco de Asis Church is one of the area’s most picturesque adobe structures and a hotspot for photographers. It was built in the early 1800s and is the only original church which remains intact in the Taos area. Beside the church, you’ll find even more old adobe buildings that provide insight into the construction methods used with the timber and adobe materials.
