Hit the Santa Fe Margarita Trail This Summer

A margarita on the rocks on an outdoor patio, something you can enjoy on the Santa Fe Margarita Trail this summer

Though there is a new trending “drink of the summer” every year, we think every summer deserves a high-quality margarita – especially when those margaritas are found on the delicious Santa Fe Margarita Trail! There’s a long history of margaritas in Santa Fe. It was the first city in New World to import tequila from Mexico, and today is a city where you’re bound to find inventive flavors and sensational cocktails.

A trip that includes plenty of shopping, relaxation, and cocktails on the Santa Fe Margarita trail is the perfect adventure for you and your best girlfriends – but we wouldn’t blame you if you turned it into a romantic getaway, either! The self-guided Santa Margarita Trail is a fun way to explore the City Different, too, as it guides you to the city’s best restaurants, bars, and more.

There are more than 40 places to sample margaritas on the Santa Fe Margarita Trail and one of them just so happens to be down the street from our New Mexico Bed and Breakfast at the Rancho de Chimayó – all the more reason to make our Inn your home away from home. We have, after all, been rated as one of the best places to stay in New Mexico! Our secluded accommodations are perfect for every kind of vacation, from girlfriend getaways to romantic celebrations. Book your stay with us today!

5 Stops on the Santa Fe Margarita Trail

Cocktail culture is once again burgeoning, and we’re so excited about it! Given tequila’s long history in the city of Santa Fe, local bars and restaurants have had plenty of time to whip up their perfect version of the margarita. From a classic lime-forward margarita on the rocks to an inventive, bold-flavored concoction, the Santa Fe Margarita Trail affords you the perfect opportunity to try several of the world’s best margaritas!

You can spend your days browsing museums and art galleries and hitting up some of the best shops on the streets surrounding the Santa Fe Plaza. But if you’re looking for something unique to do while in Santa Fe – perhaps after you’ve done some of these other things – then you need to check out the Santa Fe Margarita Trail. There’s no shortage of great places to find a great margarita in Santa Fe!

The Santa Fe Margarita Trail is a fun, self-guided way to explore the city and have a few delicious drinks along the way. Make sure to show your Santa Fe Margarita Trail passport at each location you visit for the discounted signature margarita available at each spot. You can only get two stamps every 12 hours, though, so to help you make the most of your time, we’ve listed a few of our favorite stops on the Santa Fe Margarita Trail – beyond our favorite local spot, Rancho de Chimayó – below.

  1. At Coyote Rooftop Cantina, enjoy the flavors of hatch-chile-infused tequila in their Norteno Margarita, a perfect drink for those who like a little spice in their cocktail.
  2. The Shed has one of the best green chile cheeseburgers in town, but they are also one of our favorite stops on the Santa Fe Margarita Trail. Here, wet your whistle with their Roca Coin Margarita, made with Roca Patron Silver Tequila and Cointreau.
  3. If variety is what you’re after, don’t miss Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen. They have a list of over 150 margaritas, but the Los Luceros Margarita is the one to try at this Santa Fe Margarita Trail destination.
  4. At Cowgirl BBQ, enjoy the Cowgirl Cadillac Margarita. It’s made of organic reposado tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh-squeezed orange and lime, and sweet and sour mix.
  5. The Bell Tower at La Fonda features the best rooftop bar in Santa Fe and one of the prettiest places to drink on the Santa Fe Margarita Trail. The Bell Ringer Margarita, made with Tanteo jalapeno tequila, Cointreau, and jalapeno juice, pairs perfectly with these gorgeous views.
