Though even those that get covered in snow can be ridden with fat tire bikes in the winter for a unique adventure!

There are far more New Mexico mountain biking trails than we can cover here, but below, you’ll find a healthy list of our favorite biking trails to the south, in Santa Fe, and north in Taos.

The 8 Best Bike Trails in Santa Fe

  1. If we had to choose just one New Mexico Mountain biking trail to feature, it’d be the Dale Ball Trail network. The Dale Ball Trails are not only the best bike trails in Santa Fe, but in all of northern New Mexico. This expansive network of trails can be accessed right from downtown Santa Fe, without having to drive to a trailhead, and opens up to 25 incredible miles of mountain biking through the scenic high deserts of Santa Fe.
  2. Another of the more popular bike trails in Santa Fe is Pajarito Mountain. These New Mexico mountain biking trails are lift-served and offer a sensational descent for the adrenaline junky in you. There are more than 30 trails to explore here, and the vertical drop you’ll experience is an astounding 1,200 feet. You’ll be grateful for the lift-served access!
  3. If you’re looking for easier bike trails in Santa Fe, try the La Tierra trails. This network of bike trails in Santa Fe is also easily accessible from downtown Santa Fe and offers plenty of leisurely rides.
  4. Another great choice for easier rides in town is the Santa Fe Rail Trail. Like most rail trails, this one is relatively flat, but the gorgeous scenery is more than worth it!
  5. Ride through the scenic Santa Fe National Forest on the Winsor Trail, which has earned a reputation for being one of the more popular mountain bike trails in Santa Fe. It starts in the nearby village of Tesuque and ends at the Santa Fe Ski Basin. This trail also connects to the Chamisa Trail, another great spot for mountain biking in New Mexico.
  6. For gorgeous views of Santa Fe, head to the Atalaya Mountain Trail, arguably one of the best-known New Mexico mountain biking trails in the Santa Fe area.
  7. For more great views, head up to Aspen Vista.  The trail actually is on a dirt road, and it climbs 6 miles to the top of Ski Santa Fe.
  8. If big, fast downhill descents are on your mind, then you’ll love the trails at Glorieta Camps. These trails have hosted national championships in the past and will present you with a serious challenge.
